Tesla Ramps Up Shanghai Production Amid Mixed Demand Signals
Tesla Inc. has initiated a production expansion at its Shanghai Gigafactory following a 2.8% year-over-year sales increase of China-made EVs in September. The facility, which serves as Tesla's primary manufacturing hub for Asian and European markets, sold 90,812 units last month—halting a two-month decline. Vice President TAO Lin confirmed the Q4 ramp-up via Weibo.
The growth comes despite uneven demand for Cybertruck models globally. Shanghai's output will support both domestic Chinese demand and international deliveries, including a newly announced six-seater Model Y variant designed specifically for the local market. The extended Model Y L will feature a 150cm longer frame than standard versions.
